4 #KwentongBABAYEnihan in Calungsod, Campo Uno tribal community and Latap in Labuan, Zamboanga del Sur
BABAYEnihan against COVID-19 has reached the indigenous communities in Calungsod, Campo Uno tribal community and Latap, in Labuan, Zamboanga del Sur!
The Subanen women in Labuan, Zamboanga del Sur are members of SHEG or Self-help group, along with other rural women. At this time, under the COVID19 crisis, they have proven among themselves that indeed, they have no one else to turn to for help but each other. As daily wage earners, the lockdown has really brought so much burden to the rural and indigenous women - they worry for every meal, and the next - not for themselves, but for their families. In just the second week of the lockdown, Linette Enriquez, member of the Steering Committee of Katutubong Lilak, reported that the Subanen women were already deep in debt for their everyday expenses - mostly for food. They got their first relief pack from the Barangay in the fourth week.
With BABAYEnihan, we were able to share your support to the Subanen women - including pregnant and elderly women, along with the other rural women in the three barangays of the town Labuan. We hope that this will tide them over, until the local government will be able to fulfill its obligations to the Subanen women.
Maraming salamat po. Thank you for the support and solidarity. We feel the love.
We will share with you stories and photos when available of how your support has reached our indigenous women partners and their families.
