Celebrate the Bravery of Young Indigenous Women
Celebrate the Bravery of Young Indigenous Women
Day of Valor Statement
We, members of KKPinay (Young Indigenous Women), together with LILAK, celebrate the ability, bravery, and strength of young indigenous women.
Despite the challenges, we remain committed to fighting against discrimination, violence in all its forms, and violations of human rights.
We will continue to defend our ancestral domains against destruction and bravely stand against huge corporations and the destructive large-scale mining industry. We will protect the environment and our natural resources, along with the indigenous culture, our traditions, and our identity.
In a society that continues to silence Indigenous peoples, youth, and women, we will raise our voices even louder. Bravely, we will stand against and end discrimination and violence in all its forms against Indigenous peoples, youth, and women. Together, we will create a just and equal society where every person no matter their identity, age, gender and sexuality, disability, or economic status will live freely.
Despite the red-tagging, threats, and harassment, we will continue to call on the leaders of our country to end child and arranged marriages. We will call on them to ensure that we receive quality and free education that is culturally-appropriate to Indigenous peoples, and that all spaces, especially communities and schools, are free of discrimination and violence. We call on them to enact genuine changes that will benefit all and not just the elite few. We call on them to recognize the rights of young Indigenous women.
We also call on our fellow young indigenous women, never again will we allow ourselves to be disparaged simply because we are Indigenous or young or women.
We a Indigenous, youth, and women—defenders of rights and the environment. We, who shape the dreams of society. We, who are the future of society.
Mabuhay ang mga katutubong kabataang kababaihan!
