Mining is one of the major industries aggressively being pursued by the Philippine government, which promises big economic contribution and generation of employment. However, through the years, these hopes are mired not only by environmental degradation by also by human rights violations and abuses. This book discusses the policies on mining, the role of patriarchy, and how women in the rural and indigenous communities bravely face life’s challenges and the human rights violations and abuses brought about by mining.
